botanical gardens Back again by popular demand! Learn how to design from within nature and to create sustainable living systems in the Permaculture Design Certification course. Beginning with thoughtful and protracted observation, and leveraging the resilience, diversity and stability of natural ecosystems, Permaculture offers a new way to look at designing practical systems for providing our food, medicine, energy and shelter in a truly sustainable fashion. The class will take place over six weekends this summer with an optional workday (July 28) and study groups and cover all topics and course requirements for completing a Certificate in Permaculture Design. Most class meetings will be held at the Garden with field trips to nearby organic gardens.

Presenters include the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society’s Fred Bové, Northern California Permaculture Guild’s Kat Steele, Kevin Bayuk from the Urban Alliance for Sustainability, Australia’s Permaculture Research Institute Director Geoff Lawton, Occidental Arts and Ecology Center’s Brock Dolman. Local Community garden activist Odin Zackman, Daily Act’s Trathen Heckmen, Mia Rose of the RITES Project will also present. Other special guests to be announced.

Open to all levels of experience. Participants completing the course and group design project will receive a certificate. Some work-trade available.
